MITCHELL – Following the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding from the Mitchell City Council during their January meeting, members of the Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission voted on Thursday to proceed forward with the MOU and construction of a shell building in Mitchell’s Industrial Park.
The 50,000 square-foot building, which will be expandable up to 100,000 square feet, will be funded using revenue generated by the Lehigh TIF District, with the goal of attracting a business to the property.
The 14-acre site where the building will eventually be constructed is owned by the Mitchell Industrial Corporation.
Costs associated with maintaining the building and the grounds, as well as insurance payments, will be covered by Lawrence County until a business purchases the property and moves in.
County RDC President Jeff Quyle said he anticipates having a contract in place for the construction of the building by June 30 of this year.
