INDIANAPOLIS-Maude J. (Jody) Gilbert, 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2023, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born August 9, 1939, in Indianapolis, she was born to Virgil Ludy and Ruth (Mills) Ooley.
Jody retired many years ago while she still lived in Mitchell and moved to Indianapolis in 2016. She cherished spending time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-granddaughter. She loved doing crafts, playing games, and playing cards with her family and really enjoyed the big family get-togethers!
Surviving relatives include 5 children and 2 step-children. Her children are Rita (Roger) Abell of Greenwood, Indiana; Patricia (James) Schantz of Bloomfield, Indiana; Ron Parkinson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Sherrie (Rick) Ramsey of Louisville, Kentucky; and Dan (Tess) Parkinson of Kokomo, Indiana. Her step-daughters are Connie Williams of Frankfort, Indiana, and Pam Martin of Texas. She had over 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Jody was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Parkinson, in 1964. She remarried and was preceded in death by her second husband, Vernon Gilbert. She was preceded in death by one sister, one-half brother, two step-sisters, one granddaughter, and her parents.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jim Russell officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Vernon.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
