MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested Sunday after police discovered he had entered a home without the owner’s permission, seeking a woman who was not there.
Mitchell Police Department officers Kenton Carter and Josh Turner responded to a report of an unwanted person in the 200 block of South Eighth Street.
As officers approached a man standing on the porch, they said a second man, 55-year-old Illya Morgan, who was near the railroad tracks was yelling loudly and making erratic movements and was walking away from officers.
Officers approached Morgan, who was said to have been sweating profusely. He told police a woman inside the house was banging on the window and that woman was injured.
The officers then spoke to the other male on the porch, who was a 17-year-old juvenile.
The teen told police he was in the bathroom when he heard Morgan run into his home yelling and screaming before exiting. He noted that Morgan was looking for a woman who he did not know.
The teen told police that Morgan threatened to blow up his car and sent other people into the teen’s home to hurt him.
Police then alerted the teen’s father who later arrived at the scene and requested to file charges against Morgan for entering their home.
While attempting to speak to Morgan, police said he walked away and was very agitated. Morgan told police he was looking for a woman named “Nyoka.”
Morgan was then detained by the officers, who said he continued to incoherently tell them he was looking for a woman.
Police said they did not believe Morgan was in the right state of mind to answer questions.
An ambulance was requested to the scene to conduct a medal evaluation of Morgan. Once medically cleared, Morgan was arrested on charges of residential entry, intimidation, criminal trespassing, and disorderly conduct.
