Oolitic man arrested after being disruptive with emergency crews and hospital staff

OOLITIC – An Oolitic man was arrested on Friday, Feb. 10th when an ambulance was summoned to the 600 block of West 9th Street in Oolitic after a report of a medical emergency.

When emergency personnel arrived at 10:35 p.m. they requested an officer to the location because the patient 60-year-old Jeffrey Hamilton was being belligerent and combative. He was throwing things at the emergency crew and an EMT was struck with one of those items. Hamilton had been drinking and had used meth.

Hamilton was placed in an ambulance and transported to IU Bedford Health Hospital. Hamilton continued to be combative and belligerent in the ambulance. The ambulance stopped at the intersection of Main Street and Hoosier Avenue where Oolitic Town Marshal James Harrington spoke to Hamilton. He advised Hamilton that if he continued to behave this way he would be arrested.

Marshal Harrington followed the ambulance to the hospital. Hamilton was put in an emergency treatment room where he continued to be uncooperative and disruptive.

A family member arrive and was able to calm Hamilton down.  

But around 2:11 a.m. Marshal Harrington was alerted that Hamilton was again being disruptive and had thrown a cup of water at his family member. The family member said they couldn’t deal with Hamilton anymore and left.
Hamilton was detained and after being discharged from the hospital was transported to jail on charges of battery, and intimidation.
