Barney Goins, 82, of Bedford, IN, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born on September 14, 1940, he was the son of Brownlow and Cora (Collins) Goins. He married Carolyn “Sue” Blackburn on June 2, 1963, and she survives.
Barney was a U.S. Army Veteran, contract carpenter, former superintendent of Oolitic Water Works, a volunteer fireman in Oolitic, and owned and operated Goins Construction where he built various apartments, hospitals, and homes around Lawrence County.
Barney is survived by his wife, Sue; three daughters, Debra Goins, Teresa Haase, and Shannon (Jim) Roach; one son, Darren Goins; seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Michael) Davis, Whitney Haase, Tasheena (Ryan) Sinclair, Jacob Roach, Hiley Roach, Zac Cooper, and Landon Cooper; 10 great-grandchildren, Emma, Haylee, Julian, Blake, Gavin, Ellie, Maya, Sophia, Wesley, and Isaac; sister, Rosalie Kerr; half-brother, Olen Goins; half-sister, Allene Wells; and several nieces and nephews in Indiana and Tennessee.
Barney is preceded in death by his parents, Brownlow and Cora; daughter, Krista Goins; brothers, Paris, Cecil, James, Woodrow “Crow”, and Elbert; and sister, Maggie.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Noah Crider officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to the service time on Monday also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
