BEDFORD – At Thursday’s North Lawrence Community Schools board meeting, members voted unanimously to approve a separation and mutual release agreement with assistant superintendent Chris Tanner, ending his term of employment with the district.
Tanner’s hiring was announced during a board meeting in July of 2022.
NLCS board member Scott King discussed the decision prior to casting his vote, saying it had come after research conducted by the board since January, when three new members began serving their terms following the 2022 election. King said their investigation discovered issues between Tanner, his department, and employees.
“I would just like you to state that this is not a deal-by-association move. It’s also not a moving too-fast move. This situation was investigated and looked at. The process began back on Jan. 12, after we were made aware of some issues that our employees have had in that department and we’re working diligently to make those better and this was just the first step in that process,” he said.
Both King and NLCS board president Wendy Miller said they were unable to further comment on what those issues were when asked after the meeting.
