BEDFORD – During Tuesday’s meeting of the Bedford Board of Works and Safety, the group approved a bid for the installation of pavement for pickleball courts at Wilson Park.
The project, spearheaded by the Bedford Parks Department and the Bedford Recreation Foundation, will see a six-court pickleball complex built at Wilson Park in the area west of the baseball field.
The Bedford Recreation Foundation donated half of the cost to have the complex constructed, which was said to be around $50,000. While the city’s parks department will be able to fund most of the rest from their own budget, they did request an additional $10,000 from the City to complete the project, which the board approved during the meeting.
“We feel like with the popularity of pickleball, the city doesn’t really have any courts except for the makeshift ones they’ve done at some of the schools and that we have some fantastic parks and feel like this will utilize Wilson and help it become more of a popular park again and we can play a part in that to help the city make that come to fruition,” said Joey Elliott, Bedford Recreation Foundation member.
“We’re pleased to be a part of it. I think we’ve had some good projects in the past for the team with the City of Bedford and this is probably one of the more important ones I believe. I think it’ll be a great asset to Wilson Park and as well as the city itself and community,” said Bedford Recreation Foundation President Tom Elliott.
