BEDFORD – This month’s February Park Program at 6 p.m. on February 28, features Volkswalking by Teena Ligman.
Ligman, a local outdoors person, backpacker, and Vice President of the State Volkswalking Association will present a program on Volkswalking. Other local volkswalkers will be there to share their experiences as well.
This unique sport is all about walking with friends, staying healthy, and seeing interesting places. Volkswalks are scheduled around the state in State Parks, forests, historical areas, and interesting towns in conjunction with festivals.
The sport started in Germany and has spread to 42 countries so you can literally walk the world doing volkswalks. With each one, you can walk with other people and make new friends on a route for a 5 or 10K (3.1 or 6.2 miles) distance.
The events are free.
Come hear from people who have volkswalked around the world; learn where you can walk close to home or around the country if you travel. The Bedford Walking Club hosts four year-round volkswalks nearby that you can walk at any time and one traditional volkswalk which is more in the true spirit of volkswalks which will be held this year on April 15 at Morgan Monroe State Forest. Ligman will also have information on interesting walks around the state almost every weekend.
This is a fun easy activity to do which will improve your health, allow you to make new friends, and get out and enjoy the outdoors. The presentation will be held at the historic Otis Park Bath House located between the Red Brick Mansion and the Golf Course office at 607 Tunnelton Road east of Bedford.
Please RSVP to the Park office for the program at 812-275-5692 or email jwebb@bedford.in.us so we have enough handouts and chairs ready.
Mark your calendars for the Marcy program on March 28, which is “A Surveyor’s Snapshot of Indiana’s Forest in the earlh 1800’s” presented by A.J. Ariens from the Indiana DNR.
