Two arrested after police and probation officers find fentanyl under a mattress

MITCHELL – Two people were arrested on drug charges Monday after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a request from the Probation Department to assist them at a residence in the 300 block of Moffatt Road, where they later located drugs.

When officers arrived they found three probation officers speaking with 27-year-old Kaitlyn Tegarden and 25-year-old Jacob Roach.

Tegarden was wanted on warrants and there was fentanyl in her and Roach’s bedroom.

An officer and two of the probation officers followed Tegarden into the bedroom where she showed them where the fentanyl was located, which was between the mattress and box springs. The officer lifted the mattress and recovered a baggie containing two small corner baggies inside of fentanyl.

Tegarden told officers the fentanyl belonged to her. However, Roach slept on that side of the bed and probation said he had failed a drug screen.

Both Tegarden and Roach were arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Tegarden was also detained on outstanding warrants.
