Bedford-Jackie D. “Jack” Short, 84, of Bedford passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at his residence.
Born December 8, 1938, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Richard B. and Beulah H. (Hall) Short. He married Barbara Ann Bex on February 24, 1961, and she preceded him in death in 1980. Jack was a graduate of Williams High School with the Class of 1957, following graduation he attended High Point College in North Carolina on a basketball scholarship from 1958 to 1961.
After college, he began his teaching career in 1963 at the Williams High School where he had coached in ’62 and ‘63, later that year he moved to Bedford High School where he coached Junior Varsity Basketball. In 1974 he moved to Bedford North Lawrence High School and began teaching business and typing and ended with teaching driver’s education. He retired in 1998.
Jack enjoyed basketball, golf, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Carmen Johnson, and her husband Rusty of Bedford; a sister, Suzanne Hardwick of Bedford; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Barbara.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Wayne Gaither officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday, March 2nd at the mortuary.
