BEDFORD – A student was arrested on Friday after officers were called to Bedford North Lawrence High School at 12:30 p.m. after a report of an incident in the cafeteria.
The officer was monitoring the students in the cafeteria when he saw students standing up and he walked over to see what was happening. Two male students were pushing each other.
The officer stopped the fight and was escorting one of the male students from the area when the other followed them.
The officer then turned to tell the male to stop following them, at which point the student slapped the officer on the arm. The officer attempted to grab that student but he pushed the officer. The officer took the student to the ground and another officer arrived to assist.
Both officers continued to tell the student on the ground to stop resisting and to calm down. The officers then attempted to put the student in handcuffs, but he continued to struggle and pulled away from the officer. An officer had a hold of the student’s shirt, which ripped as the student took off running.
BNL principal Jordan Key was able to find the student outside of Entry 1.
Other officers arrived at the scene and attempted to get the student, who continued walking away from them. Officers continued to follow the student north on Stars Boulevard, near State Road 58.
Officers again told the student to stop but he continued to walk north and then suddenly ran east but was stopped by two other officers before being detained.
The student continued to yell at officers and attempted to break free. He then kicked one of the officers in the lower left leg.
The male teen was transported to the Bedford Police Department and then the Lawrence County Probation Department and placed on electronic monitoring and released to the custody of his parents.
The student was issued a summons to appear in court and is facing two counts of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest by fleeing, resisting arrest by force, and disorderly conduct.
