BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Friday after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a call reporting a domestic fight at 1195 State Road 158.
When police arrived they found a woman inside the home. She told police her husband had hit her in the face with a pillow.
She told police the two were in bed and she had requested that her husband, 31-year-old Brandon Wells, decipher a message from their landlord and the two began arguing.
During the argument, Wells grabbed a pillow from behind his back and struck her in the face with it, which she said caused her pain.
She also stated Wells had placed his hands on her chest and shoved her in order to get her attention as she was attempting to leave the residence.
She added that Wells did not forcibly keep her against her will.
Police later found Wells in his bedroom.
Wells told police he was deciphering a message sent to his wife from their landlord when a verbal argument began. He said the two were arguing because she said Wells did not keep in contact with her enough throughout the day while he is at work.
He said the argument continued to escalate until in his frustration he grabbed a pillow from behind his head and intended to throw it at a fan located at the foot of their bed, but lost his grip leading the pillow to strike his wife in the face.
Wells said she then left the bedroom and returned yelling at him.
He claimed she stated her intentions to leave and he told her to “go ahead”. He denied putting his hands on his wife.
The woman would not sign a battery affidavit but said he should go to jail, according to police.
Wells was arrested on charges of domestic battery, and domestic battery in the presence of a child under the age of 16 because the couple’s child was in the home at the time of the fight.
