BEDFORD – The Lawrence County commissioners on Tuesday announced they have reached an agreement with INDOT in the eminent domain suit.
INDOT wanted to seize each of the courthouse square’s corner inlets and outlets and install new traffic devices.
This would have caused the loss of 15 parking spaces.
“We have finally come to an agreement with INDOT and now this will not happen,” said Commissioner President Dustin Gabhart.
The commissioners also approved a title change for Travis Sanders, who is currently the human resource director.
“Travis has stepped up and taken on a lot more responsibility,” said Gabhart. “His new title will be the administrative director.”
Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer reported she is working on disaster training events.
On March 25th there will be a round table event and on April 28th officials will do a mock flood disaster at a local nursing home.
“Students will play the part of residences and will be evacuated from the nursing home,” she added.
She is also working on an event during the next solar eclipse.
The eclipse will happen on April 8, 2024, at approximately 3:04 p.m. Located most directly on the path’s centerline of all Indiana cities, the duration of totality will be approximately four minutes and two seconds.
