BEDFORD – A Bedford couple was arrested on theft charges after Bedford Police officers responded to a report of a male stealing at Walmart.
While officers were on the scene investigating this theft, the officer was notified that a female just pushed a cart of unpaid merchandise out the lawn and garden doors on the far west side of the store.
The employees retrieved the cart and the female fled south toward the back of the store. The officer spotted the female running from the parking lot toward Becky Skillman Way.
The officer caught up to the female in his police vehicle and detained 53-year-old Sonya Lagle.
The officer returned to the store with Lagel who had attempted to steal more than $1,500 of merchandise from the store.
Sonya Lagle told police she did push the cart out of the store but was under the impression that 51-year-old Timothy Lagle had paid for the items. She then said Timothy Lagle was the man police had detained earlier.
This was not the first time the couple had stolen from Walmart. According to police, the couple was being investigated in several theft cases from the store.
Both Sonya and Timothy Lagle were detained and transported to jail on a charge of theft over $750.
