OOLITIC – Oolitic Marshal James Harrington conducted a traffic stop on northbound State Road 37, north of Main Street, on Monday at 6:13 p.m., because the driver wasn’t able to maintain his lane of travel.
Upon making contact with the driver, it was discovered that the vehicle was also occupied by the driver’s two young juvenile children, neither child was secured in a child safety seat. The parent was in need of safety seats for the children.
After determining the driver was sober and neither drugs or alcohol played a role in his inability to maintain his travel lane, Harrigonton contacted Oolitic Councilman Steve Kerr and inquired about obtaining car seats for the children. Councilman Kerr spoke with Oolitic resident Chris Atkins, who generously donated two child safety seats to the parent, and the parent was released with only a verbal warning for the traffic infraction.
“This is an example of good teamwork between residents, town officials, and law enforcement, and Mr. Atkins’ donation is greatly appreciated,” said Town Marshal Harrington
