BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after a Bedford Police officer witnessed her veering around a traffic control barricade at the intersection of 16th and R streets.
The officer followed the Ford F-150 as the driver continued to travel west on 16th Street toward Brian Lane Way. The driver then entered the eastbound lanes of travel and continued around another set of traffic cones and road-closed signs. The truck eventually re-entered the westbound lanes.
The officer activated his emergency lights to pull over the driver at the intersection of 16th Street and Poplar Avenue. The driver continued traveling west before pulling into a parking lot in the 2000 block of 16th Street.
The passenger began speaking for the driver 52-year-old Kelly Caudill. He told police Caudill didn’t know where to go and that he was helping her navigate.
The officer noticed Caudill’s manual dexterity was poor and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
Caudill told the officer the vehicle belonged to her friend and she was not sure where the vehicle registration was. While speaking the officer noticed the odor of alcoholic beverage on Caudill’s breath.
Caudill was asked to exit the vehicle and asked how much she had to drink. Caudill admitted to having “two shooters”.
Caudill then failed several field sobriety tests. Caudill blew a 0.149 blood-alcohol level on a preliminary breath test.
Caudill was detained and that is when the officer noted in his report that Caudill’s attitude became “very abrasive, argumentative”. Caudilll was warned about her behavior.
She was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw. Those results are pending.
The vehicle was towed by Mikels Wrecker Service and her passenger was released from the scene.
Her dog that was also in the vehicle was released to the custody of animal control. Caudill was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, OWI endangerment, and reckless driving.
