MITCHELL – A Mitchell man is facing two counts of auto theft, criminal mischief, and domestic battery charges after Mitchell Police officers were summoned to the Marathon gas station on State Road 37 on March 2 about a possible stolen vehicle.
When police arrived at 4:17 p.m., the caller told police her white Jeep Cherokee had been stolen from a home in the 300 block of West Frank Street in Mitchell and she had located it at the Marathon station.
When police arrived they located a white Jeep Cherokee that was similar to the caller’s but was registered to another male. The caller told police she had just recently been released from jail while she was incarcerated someone had sold her vehicle to another male for $200. She told police she had not given anyone permission to sell her vehicle. Police then went to the home of the male who purchase the vehicle. The male told police he had purchased the vehicle for $200 in February. He told police since the vehicle had been stolen he would return it to the owner. He also provided police with the names of the individuals who sold him the vehicle.
The passenger side window had been busted out of the vehicle. Someone had busted the ignition and was using a flat-head screwdriver to start the vehicle. The female owner became visibly upset over the damage. Police learned that 62-year-old Robert Gammon, of Mitchell, was one of the individuals involved in the theft of the vehicle and a warrant was requested for his arrest.
