There is still time for Martin County residents to voice concerns over the Mid-State Corridor project

MARTIN CO. – Residents in Martin County are voicing concerns about the Mid-States Corridor Project, a proposed highway connection in southern Indiana.

According to Loogootee Mayor Noel Harty, the Mid-State Corridor Project Team is listening and has released three new proposed routes.

The Mid-States Corridor Project will start at State Road 66 near the William H. Natcher Bridge in Spencer County and connect with I-69. The new stretch of roadway will consist of using existing roadways and building new roadways north through Martin and Daviess counties.

“I can say that 100% of the elected officials that I’ve talked to are against the road,” said Mayor Harty. “As far as business owners, I’ve not talked to one who is for the road.”

INDOT was asked to consider variations to minimize the potential for negative impacts on Loogootee’s local economy. These variations have the potential to support enhanced economic activity in Martin County and were also proposed to reduce potential impacts on the Amish community’s travel patterns.

Mayor Harty is urging residents to share their comments before the March 31st deadline.

Residents can view a copy of the map and fill out a comment sheet with their views at the Loogootee Public Library.

A video illustrating the changes is posted on the project website at https://midstatescorridor.com/rpap/  Updated materials showing the additional variations are also available for review at several area locations including the Mid-States Project Office, INDOT offices in Vincennes and Indianapolis and libraries in Dale, Ferdinand, Huntingburg, Jasper, Dubois, Otwell, Shoals, Loogootee, and Bloomfield.

Comments on the variations can be made through a comment form at the Project Office, by mail, by email (info@midstatescorridor.com), or directly through the project website. To be included in the project record, please have your response returned by March 31, deadline.
