Clowes Collaborative Inaugural Invitational Art Exhibit on display at Hilbert Circle Theatre through June 4
Three of Indiana’s most enduring arts and arts-supporting organizations are joining in a special collaboration of music and visual art. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Hoosier Art Salon, and the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, Inc. are partners in an art exhibition and competition called the Clowes Collaborative. Artwork by 18 award-winning Hoosier Salon artists will be on display throughout Hilbert Circle Theatre for all ISO patrons to enjoy from March 10 through June 4, 2023. Event Sponsor: Daniel H. About Robert Spano
Robert Spano, conductor, pianist, composer, and teacher, is known worldwide for the intensity of his artistry and distinctive communicative abilities, creating a sense of inclusion and warmth among musicians and audiences that is unique among American orchestras. After twenty seasons as Music Director, he will continue his association with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as Music Director Laureate. An avid mentor to rising artists, he is responsible for nurturing the careers of numerous celebrated composers, conductors, and performers. As Music Director of the Aspen Music Festival and School since 2011, he oversees the programming of more than 300 events and educational programs for 630 students and young performers. Principal Guest Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra since 2019, Spano became Music Director Designate on April 1, 2021, and begins an initial three-year term as Music Director in August 2022. He is the tenth Music Director in the orchestra’s history, which was founded in 1912.
About George Li
Praised by The Washington Post for combining “staggering technical prowess, a sense of command, and depth of expression,” pianist George Li possesses brilliant virtuosity and effortless grace far beyond his years. Since winning the Silver Medal at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition and being named the recipient of the 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Li has rapidly established a major international reputation as he performs regularly with some of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. George began his piano studies at age 4 with Dorothy Shi, before continuing with Wha Kyung Byun at New England Conservatory beginning at age 12. In 2019, he completed the Harvard/New England Conservatory dual degree program, with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in music. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the New England Conservatory. When not playing piano, George is an avid reader and photographer as well as a sports fanatic.
