BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Thursday. March 23, after Lawrence County Central Dispatch, received a 911 call at 3:08 a.m. reporting a physical domestic fight at 226 Perry Street.
The male caller reported that his girlfriend was being beaten by her son.
Deputies responded but while en route dispatch reported the male, 43-year-old Brandon Kennedy had left and was armed with a gun.
When officers arrived they were met by the 64-year-old female victim.
The woman told police that Brandon Kennedy had run toward her and had thrown her phone. He then pushed her recliner over while she was sitting in it causing her to fall out. The woman told police she was “hurting all over” and had injuries to her wrist and face. An ambulance was requested to the scene. The woman was treated at the scene but refused to be transported.
She stated Kennedy was standing over her with a handgun to the right side of her head, threatening to kill her while she was laying on the floor. She also claimed he hit her numerous times.
She told police it took her about 30 minutes before she was able to get herself up while Kennedy paced the floor. She then walked outside to the porch.
She stated to police Kennedy had been drinking and was upset because the Department of Child Services had taken his 2-month-old baby away from him the day before. She stated Kennedy and a person named Justice had been drinking and fighting all day.
She said she had been cleaning up a mess that Kennedy had made by throwing items. Kennedy also broke a whiskey bottle and wine bottles on the floor. Police did find glass shards by the front door.
While on the porch, Kennedy continued to threaten to kill her while waving the gun around. He dropped the gun and walked back inside. She picked the gun up and put it on a shelf next to her. She reported Kennedy had dropped his gun multiple times.
The woman stated Kennedy also picked up a knife and pointed it at her chest a couple of times. He would pull the knife in and out of his back pocket while he continued to threaten her. A knife was seen on the kitchen counter.
When asked why the woman didn’t call sooner, she told police she was afraid and Kennedy had threatened that if she called the police he would shoot her.
The woman stated that Kennedy had fired the gun up in the air four to five times and one struck the porch roof. An officer found the shell casing on the porch.
The woman refused to sign a battery affidavit because Kennedy had threatened to shoot her if she did.
On Friday, March 24, the Department of Child Services called 911 advising that Kennedy was in the parking lot. When Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Officers arrived, he was in the process of leaving the parking lot in his vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on 5th Street between X and W streets.
Kennedy was detained on charges of domestic battery, criminal recklessness, criminal recklessness with a firearm, and criminal confinement.
