On Track: I-69 Finish Line Project Update

INDIANA – This time of year, construction projects often use the phrase “weather permitting.” There’s a good reason for that. Most of the activity that kicks off a construction season requires certain temperatures and dry conditions. Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate.

This past weekend’s planned eastbound I-465 traffic shift is a good case in point. While light rain wouldn’t have prevented the movement of the barrier wall, it was impossible to restripe the new lanes with wet pavement. So, crews will be out there this Friday to implement the switch, weather permitting.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, eastbound I-465 will be reduced to one lane and several eastbound ramps will be closed for the weekend between I-65 and I-70 on the city’s southwest side.  You can see more information on the timing and layout here.

In other traffic news from around the Indianapolis metro area, traffic will shift onto new I-70 westbound to I-65 northbound infrastructure in the North Split Interchange. The shift is scheduled for Thursday night, weather permitting. Stay up to date by following the North Split Reconstructions on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

On the northeast side of town, Clear Path 465 will be restricting I-465 eastbound/southbound to a single lane on Friday, March 31 at 9 p.m. through Monday, April 3 at 6 a.m. The ramp from I-69 southbound to I-465 southbound will also be reduced to a single lane during this time.

All construction activities outlined above are weather dependent and the schedules are subject to change. Follow all three projects on social media for the latest updates and information.

Motorists should expect single-lane and nightly double-lane closures on I-465 between I-65 and I-70 on the city’s southwest side this week. Crews will be prepping for the upcoming weekend restrictions.

I-69

The first beams for the new I-465/I-69 system interchange in Marion County were placed earlier this month. Not only were they the first beams set in the system interchange, but they are the largest pre-stressed concrete beams in the entire project.

Many of I-69 Finish Line’s bridge beams are built right here in Indiana.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
