BEDFORD – During a meeting on Tuesday night, the Lawrence County Council approved a special meeting that will take place in two weeks, where members will vote on whether or not to approve funding for a security project at the Courthouse Annex.
Council president Jeff Lytton said that while speaking with security workers at the building, they had identified some deficiencies at the facility to him.
While Lytton did not go into detail as to what those deficiencies were, he said upholding security at that building is crucial for the county.
“The security in that building is very, very important,” he said. “From a security standpoint, with the exception of the jail, it’s the county’s biggest exposure.”
The county has received one bid thus far to correct these issues, which Lytton said is priced between $25,000-$27,000. For county commissioners to agree to the contract, they must receive two bids, the second of which has been obtained as of Friday, though the county is still awaiting the results, according to Lytton. Once commissioners vote to approve, the council can approve the release of funds for the project.
The council approved a special meeting for April 11 at 4:30 p.m., the same day as the next meeting of the commissioners, where they will vote on the matter.
