Kent Allen Hawkins, 75, of Bedford died at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Autumn Trace in Bedford with his loving family by his side.
Born December 30, 1947, in Beech Grove, IN he was the son of Willis W. and Minnie Marie (Coombs) Hawkins. He married Sandra Kay Maddox on June 18, 1971, and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2006. Kent was an Indiana State Trooper retiring after 28 years and served two terms as the Lawrence County Sheriff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam, a member of the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene, the Retired Troopers Association, the American Legion Gillen Post #33, and Stone City FOP where he had served as president. He enjoyed farming, basketball, and most of all, spending time with his grandkids
Survivors include his son, Justin Hawkins, and wife, Shauna of Bedford; his daughter, Misty Johnson, and husband, Dustin of Bedford; four grandchildren: Trace Hawkins and wife, Katie, Lane Hawkins, Jeslyn Martin and husband, Levi, and Dalton Johnson; a great-grandson due in June, Willis Allen Hawkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Per Kent’s wishes, private family services were held with burial in the Hanson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Kent’s memory to the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene.
