BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on March 29th on drug charges after he was stopped by a Bedford Police officer for failing to use his turn signal. The officer learned the license plate on the green Toyota Camry returned to a blue Jeep Liberty.
Bedford Police Officer Clint. Swanson stopped the vehicle at 16th and M Street.
The officer learned the driver 48-year-old James Hanson, of Bedford, had a suspended driver’s license. Hanson then denied permission for police to search the vehicle saying the vehicle was not his.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Captain Andrew Phillips arrived with his canine Scout who alerted police to possible drugs in the vehicle.
Hanson then admitted that meth, marijuana, and meth pipes were behind the driver’s seat in a plastic box. In the box, police found two glass pipes, a baggie containing crystal meth and a baggie containing marijuana, and a cut straw.
Police arrested Hanson on charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while his driver’s license was suspended.
