Bloomington man arrested after crashing car into parked vehicles

BEDFORD – A Bloomington man was arrested Sunday, April 16th after Bedford Police officers respond to a report of an accident at 12:32 a.m. at 6th and P streets.

When police arrived they found a black and tan Mitsubishi Montero with heavy front-end damage. The vehicle had collided with an unoccupied parked black Ford Edge. The collision pushed the Ford Edge into a gray Dodge Ram.

Police found the driver of the Montero, 27-year-old Donald Drake III, standing near the driver’s door.

Police say Drake was intoxicated. An officer had to help Drake sit on the ground so he wouldn’t fall. Drake admitted to drinking half a bottle of vodka prior to the accident.

An IU LifeLine ambulance responded to the scene but Drake said he was not injured and didn’t need medical attention.

Drake did consent to a blood draw and was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital. Those results are pending.

Officers then had Drake medically evaluated. While waiting to be seen by a doctor Drake became agitated and threatened officers.

Once medically cleared, Drake was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and OWI endangerment and transported to jail.
