BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested on Wednesday, April 12 after Bedford Police officers responded to a report of an accident at State Road 37 and John Williams Boulevard with a vehicle leaving the scene.
The caller reported the vehicle had hit a concrete barrier and then fled the scene traveling south on State Road 37.
While en route, police received a report from OnStar reporting a vehicle, a red Hyundai Elantra, owned by 48-year-old Michael Catozzi had been involved in an accident and the airbags had deployed and Catozzi was not answering their calls.
Officers checked the area and could not find the vehicle. Police located the vehicle parked at Speedway and found Catozzi in the driver’s seat. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage and the airbag had been deployed.
An officer asked Catozzi if he was okay and he told police he had been in an accident at State Road 27 and US 50 West.
Police say Catozzi was intoxicated and failed several sobriety tests.Â
He was transported to IU Health Hospital after police secured a warrant for a blood draw. Catozzi refused to answer any questions. He was then checked by medical staff and medically cleared.
His vehicle was towed by Stone City Collision.
Catozzi was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.
