MARENGO –Carrying the momentum from their walk-off win over Eastern Greene the previous day, Mitchell High School added another victory to their season total on Wednesday, dominating Patoka Lake Athletic Conference opponent Crawford County 20-2.

Coming into the second inning with a slight 2-1 lead, the Bluejackets offense exploded for 11 runs in the second inning, creating a mountain of a deficit that the Wolfpack were unable to overcome.

After reaching two outs, Mitchell connected on seven straight singles in the inning to bat in seven runs. They’d finish the inning by adding a two-run triple from Rylee Brazzell, an RBI double from Caitlyn Mullis and another run thanks to a Crawford County error before receiving their third out. In total, 14 Bluejackets batters reached base in the inning, propelling them to an early victory in the fifth inning, due to the score disparity.

Avery Southern led the way for Mitchell, going 4-4 from the plate with two home-runs, bringing her season total to seven. She also batted in a team-high six runs in the game.

Other Bluejackets with multiple hits on the day were Brazzell, Caitlyn Mullis, Malaya Tanglao, Page Mullis, Karsyn Coleman and Emerie Russell.

Mitchell finished with 18 total hits on the day, with 18 runs batted in.

Caitlyn Mullis earned the win for the Bluejackets, her first of the year, throwing for all five innings. She struck out seven, allowing four hits and two earned runs against 21 batters.

Mitchell is now 8-5 on the season, with a 2-1 record in PLAC games. They’ll next take the field on Thursday when they take on Washington (0-7).
