INDIANA – The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Lawrence, Brown, Daviess, Greene, Jackson, Martin, and Monroe counties, recommending people avoid outdoor burning and activities that create sparks.
A Red Flag Warning means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.
“That means the conditions that support wildfire growth are elevated or more intense than usual for the area,” Matthew Eckhoff, a meteorologist with NWS Indianapolis.
The warning will be in effect today from Noon until 8 p.m. due to warm temperatures, low humidity, and a strong wind that create a high risk of fires spreading rapidly.
