New marker application materials available from the Indiana Historical Bureau

INDIANA – The Indiana Historical Bureau – a division of the Indiana State Library – has announced that the 2023-24 Indiana state historical marker application cycle is now open.

Submitted topics must demonstrate the statewide or national significance and be supported with primary source documentation to be considered. The Indiana Historical Bureau is excited to share that for the second year in a row there is a grant funding opportunity available to help offset marker costs thanks to the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. The deadline to submit an application for consideration is July 12, 2023.

The Indiana State Historical Marker Program, which began in 1946, is a public-driven program, and its success rests on the partnership between applicants and the Indiana Historical Bureau. The cast aluminum signs, with raised gold lettering against a dark blue enamel background and silver-colored frame mounted on a post, can be found in nearly every county of the state. The Indiana Historical Bureau has committed itself to ensure the topics marked to represent the rich and diverse history of the state.
