LOUISVILLE, Ky. – There are several road and bridge closings for Thunder Over Louisville this weekend.
Thunder Over Louisville is Saturday, April 22. This year’s theme is “Through the Decades.” The show will highlight Thunder’s early years.
The air show will include performances of both military and civilian aircraft. Expected highlights include, “the U.S. Air Force F-35 Demo and Heritage Flight, Navy F-35 Demo and Growler Demo with Legacy Flight, U.S. Army Golden Knights, Matt Younkin’s ‘Magic by Moonlight’ performance, as well as numerous warbirds taking to the skies, including the P-51 Mustang, F-86 Sabre, F4U Corsair and F8F Bearcat,” according to a news release from the Kentucky Derby Festival.
But before the air show and fireworks begin, some roads in downtown Louisville and southern Indiana will have to close.
The Clark Memorial/2nd Street Bridge was closed this morning, as crews prepare for the big event.
The bridge will also be closed all day Friday and Saturday and will reopen at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials with the Kentucky Derby Festival said the closure will run through Sunday afternoon.
Additionally, the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge will close on Friday, April 21, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. for the air show practice event.
On Saturday, April 22, the pedestrian bridge will be closed from 10 a.m. until midnight.
Anyone who is planning to travel to the Ohio River waterfront to watch the air show and fireworks should be aware of the traffic updates released by the City of Louisville.
