BROWN CO. – A Bedford man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop earlier this month in Brown County.
Indiana Conservation Officer Michael Southerland arrested 38-year-old Jacob Garner, after he found a vehicle parked at the Deer Run Park boat Ramp area.
The officer approached the vehicle to check on the occupants, a female driver and her passenger Garner.
Southerland ran their information through Brown County Dispatch and was advised that Garner was wanted on a warrant in Florida, but they would not extradite. The officer learned that Garner had been arrested several times on drug charges in Indiana.
The female driver, who owned the vehicle, gave the officer permission to search the vehicle.
According to the police report, when the officer opened the passenger door, he detected the odor of marijuana. The officers located a plastic smoking device inside the glove box, and multi-color plastic and rubber container between the passenger seat and the center console. In the container police found crystal meth.
Officers also found a marijuana vape pen and several Alprazolam pills in a cigarette pack in the center console.
The driver admitted the vape pen was hers and she and Garner had been smoking it before the officer had approached her vehicle.
Garner told police all the illegal substances belonged to him.
Garner was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The female driver was released from the scene.
Garner has pleaded not guilty to the crime and is scheduled to appear in Brown County Circuit Court on May 22, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. for a pretrial conference.
