BEDFORD – Bedford Police Department arrested 57-year-old David Dodds Jr., of Bedford, on charges of domestic battery causing moderate bodily injury after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

David Dodds Jr.

According to Bedford Police Officer Robert Looney, on March 28, 2023, at 4:03 p.m. officers were called to 418 L Street after a report of a domestic dispute.

When police arrived they found a distraught woman who was crying. She had suffered two small lacerations to the front of her neck. She said Dodds caused the injuries.

She told police the night before she possessed a video of people moving her items out of the house, without her permission. So she decided to go to the home and gather some of her property. Once she arrived she and Dodds began to argue through the front door. He would not allow her into the residence.

At one point, Dodds opened the front door and struck her in the neck with a decorative wood board. The woman said Dodds used enough force to cause her to fall back onto the ground. She said she was in extreme pain and it became hard to breathe.

She told police Dodds has violent tendencies and had threatened to harm her for years during their relationship and that he would be violent with officers. She also told police Dodds had guns inside the home.

Officers surrounded the home for several minutes in an attempt to make contact with Dodds but were unsuccessful. Due to the potential risk that Dodds was currently armed, it was decided that officers would not make entry into the home and would request a warrant.

The woman signed a domestic battery affidavit and went to IU Health Hospital for treatment.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s office and a warrant was issued for Dodd’s arrest.
