According to Bedford Police Chief Captain Dakoda Emmons, the thefts occurred on March 8, March 9, and March 18, 2023.

On March 22, Bedford Police officers were called to Hibbett Sports to investigate a theft. Officers were told that Javon Gilmore fraudulently returned three items to the store. The manager said Gilmore would bring in receipts from prior purchases and start a return in the system to get cash but did not return the merchandise.

The manager provided the police with video and receipts from the purchases.

On March 8th, Gilmore returned shoes for $111.38. He then returned to the store on March 9th to return a pair of shoes for $146.06, and then on March 18th, he returned two items for $114.76.

When police spoke to Gilmore, he admitted he made the fraudulent returns and admitted to stealing approximately $10,000 worth of merchandise in the past from the store.

But there was no proof of those thefts.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Gilmore’s arrest.
