BEDFORD – A 14-year-old female was detained after Bedford Police officers were called at 8:19 a.m. Tuesday when the teen’s mother reported the child had run away and had cut the line to the computer and taken her mother’s phone and credit card.
Officers pinged the phone and it showed the phone was at the child’s home on Eastview Drive. Officers went to the home to look for the phone. They found the child sleeping in a tent in the garage.
The child was taken to the police station and admitted she had taken her mother’s car a couple of days ago and drove around in it with a friend. The teen said while driving around she clipped another vehicle’s mirror and drove off. She could not tell police which mirror she had damaged or which vehicle she had hit.
The child told police she hid in the tent in the garage because she didn’t want to go to school.
The child was released to her mother and was issued a summons to appear in court on charges of juvenile delinquency/incorrigibility and theft of a motor vehicle.
