Canine Deny Joe alerts police to marijuana, meth and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle

BEDFORD – A Mitchell woman was arrested on drug charges after a Bedford Police officer stopped a vehicle on Friday, April 28th at 1:42 a.m. for having an inoperable license plate light.

The driver was stopped at 16th Street and Brian Lane Way.

The driver, 44-year-old Destiny Southworth, of Mitchell, was arrested on charges of possession of a handgun without a license, possession of meth with a handgun, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia after Oolitic canine Deny Joe alerted police to possible drugs in the 2002 Honda CRV.

During a search of the vehicle, police found several glass smoking devices with crystal meth residue inside, three rubber containers with crystal meth residue, Naloxone Hydrochloride pills, a glass jar containing partially burnt marijuana joints, a silver grinder containing marijuana, a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun, and multiple straws with a white powdery substance on them.

Southworth denied ownership of any of the items located in her vehicle. The vehicle was inventoried and recovered by Stone City Collision.
