BEDFORD – A male and female were arrested Tuesday after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Central Dispatch received a 911 call around 4 p.m. from the 2000 block of Spencer Pike Road.
The caller reported that a male had been severely beaten.
Police say the male had suffered serious injuries to his face and head.
Lawrence County Captain Andy Blackburn and Sgt. Michael Williams responded and began an investigation.
According to police, the male victim drove to a remote area after being lured there under false pretenses. Once there, 28-year-old Alex Flynn, of Mitchell came out of the woods where he was hiding. There was a confrontation between Flynn and the victim.
During this struggle, police say Flynn allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at the victim, struck the victim in the head multiple times with the firearm, fired a round from the firearm, and then left the victim lying on the ground as Flynn fled with his accomplices.
A search of the scene revealed multiple pieces of evidence, including a spent shell casing.
Officers from both the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police began to search the area for Flynn and the vehicle he had fled in.
The male victim was transported to IU Health Bedford for treatment of his injuries.
Trooper Tyler Trueblood located Flynn’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Lawrence County business; however, Flynn was no longer in the vehicle. Officers did locate the handgun believed to be used in the battery inside the vehicle. Several other items of evidence were also recovered in the vehicle. During this encounter, officers arrested Noel Bowman, 35, of Bedford on drug charges including possession of meth.
Utilizing a variety of investigative techniques, officers were able to determine that Flynn was hiding at a property on Ramsey Ridge Road. Officers went to the residence and found Flynn, who was arrested without incident.
Flynn is facing felony charges of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, intimidation while armed with a deadly weapon, pointing a loaded firearm, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police say other arrests are anticipated as a result of the completed investigation.
Officers assisting Captain Blackburn and Sgt. Williams were Lawrence County Officers Brenten Trueblood, Captain Andrew Phillips, Sheriff Greg Day, and Indiana State Troopers Tyler Trueblood, Chance Humphrey, and Sgt. Ryan Miller.
