Woman arrested after 6-year-old found running in the roadway on John Williams Boulevard

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman is facing a charge of neglect of a dependant after Bedford Police officers responded to a report of a 6-year-old boy running around only wearing his underwear and a t-shirt at John Williams Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue.

When police arrived on Saturday, April 29th at 10:19 a.m. the department had received numerous 911 calls about the boy.

Officers found the child crossing John Williams Boulevard. Multiple motorists had stopped to attempt to help the child out of the roadway. The child was crossing all four lanes of traffic. A person had also given the child a sweatshirt to wear.

Police say this is not the first time the child had been left unattended. On April 24 the child was found walking by himself on Lincoln Avenue. The Department of Child Services was alerted.

On April 27th the child was found wandering on Lincoln Avenue near Stalker Avenue and again the Department of Child Services was alerted.

Officers went to 930 L Street in an attempt to find the child’s mother 34-year-old Tammyra Johnson. Police knocked on the door and woke Johnson.

Due to the multiple involvements with the child being left unattended and at serious risk of injury, Johnson was arrested on a charge of neglect of a dependant.

The Department of Child Services was again contacted and responded to the scene. Three children were taken from the home and placed at Agape House until they could be permanently housed with a family member.
