MITCHELL – On Monday, May 1, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Captain Andy Blackburn launched an investigation after responding to the report of a theft at a business in the 4000 block of US 50 West.
On that day, two vehicles, a Chevrolet truck, and a Honda SUV were observed at the business. Witnesses reported seeing two people loading metal into the vehicles.
They fled the scene before officers arrived.
Utilizing a variety of investigative techniques, including the use of the Flock Safety license plate reading system, Capt. Blackburn identified the suspects and their vehicles. The suspects were both from Indianapolis.
On May 3, Lawrence County Dispatch received a call that the same two vehicles were again at the business loading and stealing metal. Capt. Blackburn and Detective Sgt. Michael Ramos responded and located the vehicles, stopping them along Wesley Chapel Road.
The vehicles were loaded with the stolen metal.
Police arrested 23-year-old Vince Gruber and 28-year-old Krystal Webb both of Indianapolis on two counts of theft.
