BROWN CO. – Brown County Sheriff’s Department officials are warning residents about a jury scam.
Residents are being contacted via phone from a local number 812-988-6655 and being advised to report for jury duty. Residents are then provided instructions on providing a writing sample or other simple instructions. Residents are then directed to go to an ATM and send the caller an undisclosed amount of money.
The sheriff’s department wants to remind residents that the department will not contact them about jury duty, as that is the responsibility of the Circuit Court. You will never be ordered to pay money to serve on a jury.
If you receive one of these calls or have given money to the scammers, you are urged to contact the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
