BEDFORD – Sheriff Greg Day told the Lawrence County Commissioners Tuesday morning the jail is fully staffed.
“We have one person who will be taking a position as court security on May 22, but we have someone to step in for that open position,” added Sheriff Day.
Dispatch is short one staff member.
“But we are okay with that,” Day added. “We have two candidates that are being interviewed. We are taking our time filling this position. Things are running great in dispatch and we are extremely pleased, so we want to make sure we find the right fit.”
The department will be losing an officer after the retirement of Captain Riley Hitchcock.
Captain Hitchcock started at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy and was hired as a sworn merit deputy on October 11, 2012. Captain Hitchcock had served in multiple roles including detective, field training officer, and patrol sergeant, and he continues to serve as the SWAT team commander, firearms instructor, range-master, and armorer. Riley served in the U. S. Army Reserves, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and graduating 4th in his class in the U.S. Army Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course. Riley has a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in English from Wabash College.
