Lovell Sowders, Jr., 82, of Bedford, passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at his residence.
Born August 23, 1940, in Heltonville, he was the son of Lovell Sowders, Sr. and Lilly (Winegar) Sowders. He married Penny Webb on January 10, 1965, and she survives. He retired from General Motors as a bricklayer after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force stationed in England. He was an avid basketball fan and played on the Shawswick championship basketball team of 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Penny, of Bedford; two children, Michelle Zenow (Keith), of Bedford, and Gretchen Gebhard, of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Zack Haltom (Anna), Nick Haltom, Chris Zenow (Karina), Rebecca Saineghi (Randy), and Jeremy Zenow (Katie); three sisters, Shirley Ray, of Bedford, Carol Andis (Don), of Bedford, and Kaye Kelley (Randy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Danny Sowders, and a sister, Betty Deckard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 15th at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Jeff Huddelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday at the church.
