BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Bedford Police officers responded to an accident at the intersection of 16th and Poplar streets.
When officers arrived they found a red Mitsubishi Outlander and a blue Volkswagen parked near the entrance of Pizza Hut. The red Mitsubishi had substantial damage to the front end and the blue Volkswagen had substantial damage to its rear passenger-side door.
The driver of the blue Volkswagen Jetta, was AJ Hein. He told police, he was traveling east on 16th Street and was in the turn lane attempting to turn into the Pizza Hut parking lot. He said he saw the red Mitsubishi Outlander traveling west on 16th Street and thought he had enough time to make the turn into the parking lot. When he attempted to make the turn his vehicle was struck on the rear passenger-side door.
Police say the driver of the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nancy Fausett was intoxicated. Police say Fausett was traveling west on 16th Street and as she approached the entrance of Pizza Hut the Volkswagen Jetta pulled in front of her and she struck the vehicle.
Due to Fausett’s signs of impairment, she was administrated field sobriety tests which she failed.
Fausett then told police she was suffering chest and leg pains. Fausett was then detained and escorted to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw. She was then arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Stone City Collision.
