INDIANA – Here are highlights of some of the road closures motorists can expect this summer during the I-69 Finish Line project.
The southwest side of Indianapolis will see significant changes starting in early June.
The eastbound lanes of I-465 between I-65 and I-70 will be fully closed to traffic to allow crews to complete work related to added capacity. The detour will follow I-70 eastbound to I-65 southbound at the South Split.
The following ramps will also be closed along eastbound I-465:
- I-70 EB and WB to I-465 SB/EB
- Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to/from I-465 EB
- Mann Road to I-465 EB
- Harding Street/S.R. 37 to/from I-465 EB
- East Street/U.S. 31 to/from I-465 EB
I-465 Westbound is expected to close following the July 4th holiday weekend. Eastbound and westbound lanes will not close at the same time. Click here to learn more about the I-465 directional closures.
In Johnson County, Mullinix Road east of S.R. 37 will be closed between Smith Valley Road and Olive Branch Road for approximately two months as crews construct a new roundabout at Smith Valley and Mullinix roads.
Local motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes or follow the signed detour, Olive Branch Road and Morgantown Road (C.R. 500). Click here to learn more and view the official detour map.
20-minute stoppages are expected at Harding Street for bridge work. Crews will perform these brief stoppages as needed to bring in large trucks and move materials.
Nighttime left-lane closures are expected on I-465 between I-65 and I-70 on the city’s southwest side for median work and preparation for the upcoming directional closures.

Motorists may notice paving activities resuming on the new northbound lanes of S.R. 37 near Olive Branch Road. Once complete, this will provide a smooth, quiet driving surface for the future I-69.
New noise barriers are beginning to take shape on S.R. 37 near Bluff Road. Crews will be working in the right-of-way installing the posts and absorptive panels that will provide a buffer for the neighborhoods east of future I-69. You can see maps of all the noise barriers in the I-69 Finish Line project here.
Mowing crews are expected this week along the corridor as the weather allows.
The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
