BEDFORD – A Mitchell woman was arrested after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped her vehicle after a report of a possibly intoxicated driver in a van on Mitchell Road near SandPit Road.
The caller, who was an off-duty officer, reported the driver of the van almost struck a utility pole and used the wrong turn signal to cross into the right lane, and almost struck another vehicle.
The officer spotted the 2018 silver Chrysler van on State Road 37 and stopped the vehicle south of Art Gallery Road.
The driver was 37-year-old Sarah Horton. In the front seat of the vehicle was an open container of Ole Smoky Caramel Whiskey and it was half empty.
Police say Horton was intoxicated and failed several field sobriety tests. She was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or greater.
Her vehicle was towed by Bland’s Towing.
