BEDFORD – On Thursday, May 18, a Bedford man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction
by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.
Thomas R. Burton, 40, Bedford, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, on
December 2, 2021, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.
He was originally sentenced to 910 days, with time served, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
While on probation, Burton was charged with and ultimately pleaded guilty to possession of
meth, a Level 6 felony, on March 2022, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was originally sentenced to 910 days, with time served, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
On May 18, 2023, Burton pleaded guilty to possession of meth, a Level 6 Felony, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was sentenced to 180 days, all executed, in the Indiana Department of Correction in exchange for his guilty plea.
On that day, Judge Cline revoked Burton’s two suspended sentences in his probation cases and ordered Burton to serve 700 days in the Indiana Department of Correction on each probation case.
The three sentences are to run consecutively for a combined sentence of 1,580 days in Indiana
Department of Correction.
