INDIANA – Last week the I-69 Finish Line team invited media partners to the expansive site of the future I-465/I-69 interchange to learn more about upcoming directional closures on I-465. The location of the briefing was the star of the show – high on a bridge approach right in the middle of the new system-to-system interchange.
As a reminder from June 2 to 21, eastbound I-465 will fully close to traffic between I-65 and I-70 on Indy’s southwest side to allow crews to complete work related to added capacity. The recommended detour will follow I-70 eastbound to I-65 southbound at the South Split. During the closure, the following eastbound I-465 ramps will be closed:
- I-70 EB and WB to I-465 SB/EB
- Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to/from I-465 EB
- Mann Road to I-465 EB
- Harding Street/S.R. 37 to/from I-465 EB
- East Street/U.S. 31 to/from I-465 EB
The westbound lanes of I-465 between I-65 and I-70 will close on July 7 following the completion of eastbound improvements. Click here to learn more about the upcoming closures.
During nighttime hours, left-lane closures are anticipated on I-465 between I-65 and I-70 on the southwest side of the city.
These closures are required for median work and to prepare for the directional closures.
Motorists needing to access Southport Road from S.R. 37 should look for the exit just south of Epler Ave. where traffic shifts to the left. The temporary access to Southport Road follows old S.R. 37 pavement through the Banta Road intersection and down to Southport Road. This temporary condition will be in place for 4 to 6 weeks.
Starting today, paving crews in Johnson County will close the left lane of S.R. 37 near the S.R. 144 exit to provide pavement patchwork. Motorists should watch for crews, slow down and move over.
The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
