GIBSON CO. – Sunday afternoon, May 21, at approximately 4:13 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Gage Cummings was patrolling I-69 south of Oakland City when he stopped the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet for driving 96 miles per hour.
The driver was identified as Shayla Turman, 25, of Indianapolis. Trooper Cummings detected an odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. Turman displayed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests.
Further investigation revealed Turman had smoked marijuana earlier in the day. Toxicology is pending.
Turman was arrested on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a passenger less than 18 years old and taken to the Gibson County Jail where she is currently being held on bond.
Indiana Department of Child Services took custody of the child.
