BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Bedford Police officers responded to a domestic dispute on Sunday, May 21 at 11:41 p.m. at 1204 L Street.
The caller reported that 43-year-old James Kline had injured his father and was destroying property at the home.
When police arrived Kline had left the home.
The man told police that Kline had hit him in the face prior to leaving. The man stated he was afraid of Kline and did not want him to return to the house.
The man claimed the confrontation started after he asked Kline to turn down his music. He said Kline struck him in the face and he had pushed Kline back. After pushing Kline, he struck the man in the face which caused him to fall down again and knock a table over.
The man suffered redness and bruising to his face. The man said Kline had been drinking and was possibly doing drugs.
The man said Kline broke multiple windows and other items in the home.
The man told police Kline had left in a blue Mercury Grand Marquis and was last seen traveling north on Lincoln Avenue.
An officer spotted the vehicle traveling north on Lincoln Avenue. Kline was driving on a suspended driver’s license and stopped Kline and attempted to detain him.
Kline was not cooperative and refused to put his hands behind his back and put them in his pockets. The officer pushed Kline against the vehicle and attempted to handcuff him. Kline continued to refuse to obey the officer’s commands. After a short struggle, the officer was able to take Kline to the ground and handcuff him.
Kline struck his face on the pavement causing him to bleed. An ambulance and additional officers were requested to the scene.
Police then determined Kline was intoxicated.
Kline was evaluated by an IU LifeLine ambulance crew and then a warrant was requested for a blood draw at IU Health Hospital. Those results are pending.
While at the hospital Kline was verbally abusive and was screaming. He was told numerous times to stop but Kline refused. He then threatened to shoot one of the Bedford Police officers in the face.
Kline did suffer a displaced fracture to his jaw but was released and transported to jail on charges of domestic battery, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, intimidation, and resisting law enforcement.
The vehicle was towed by Stone City Collision. In the vehicle, police found three small bottles of Fireball Whiskey in the passenger seat.
