BEDFORD – Lawrence County will honor veterans during its annual Memorial Day Program on Monday morning.
Lawrence County Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Bough told the commissioners Tuesday morning, there are 3,635 veterans who live in the county. They received more than $21 million in direct compensation.
The following is the program of events for the Memorial Day Program:
- 11:00 a.m. Recognition of Veterans in attendance and introduction of Commissioner Rodney Fish and Lawrence County Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Bough
- 11:02 a.m. Welcome speech and recognition of elected officials in attendance
- 11:03 a.m. Open prayer by Pastor Jason Filler of Bedford First Baptist Church
- 11:04 a.m. A 21 Gun Salute by American Legion Post 33 Color Guard
- 11:06 a.m. TAPS by American Legion Post 33 Color Guard
- 11:08 a.m. Placement of the Memorial Weather and Flags by a Military Gold Family
- 11:10 a.m. Star Spangle Banner and Memorial Music provided by Bedford North Lawrence Music Director Luke Hayden
- 11:15 a.m. Memorial Day Key Note Speaker US Navy Veteran and Bedford Fire Department Chief John Hughes
- 11:30 a.m. Closing Prayer by Paster Jason Filler of Bedford First Baptist Church
Bough also suggested that veterans who need assistance with anything should call his office to set up an appointment before just dropping in the office.
He is also available to help veterans who need assistance filling out the 10-10 VA forms to receive medical insurance.
