INDIANA – The public is invited to learn more about the design of the Monon South Trail project and offer feedback at two upcoming public meetings in Orleans and Salem.
The first is tonight in Orleans.
The design team from Clark Dietz, the engineering firm designing the trail, will host the meetings.
The purpose of these preliminary meetings is to provide an update on the project and to provide general project information to the public. It will also provide the first opportunity for the public to share preliminary thoughts and comments on the project.
The Monon South is a 62.3-mile pedestrian/bike trail that will follow the route of the historic Monon Railroad. The trail will pass through five counties and the cities and towns of Mitchell, Orleans, Campbellsburg, Salem, Borden, Pekin, and New Albany.
Gov. Eric Holcomb committed $29.5 million in Next Level Trail funds to develop the trail. Construction is set to begin in 2024. When completed it will be the longest recreational trail in southern Indiana.
